After a rocky start to the day, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) recovered to close Thursday's session 0.27% higher at 7,110.8 points.

It came amid news the United States' looming debt ceiling has all but been lifted. That means the world's largest economy is almost certainly safe from defaulting on its debts.

Back on the Aussie bourse, the S&P/ASX 200 Health Care Index (ASX: XHJ) led the way, gaining 1.2%.

Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology Index (ASX: XIJ) and the S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Staples Index (ASX: XSJ) also put on a show, rising 1% and 0.9% respectively.

However, it wasn't all green on Thursday. The S&P/ASX 200 Industrials Index (ASX: XNJ) posted the biggest fall of all the ASX 200's sectors, dropping 0.2%.

So, with all that considered, let's dive into today's ten top-performing ASX 200 shares.

Top 10 ASX 200 shares countdown

The Paladin Energy Ltd (ASX: PDN) share price took out the top spot in Thursday's session, soaring 11% to close at 60.5 cents.

It follows the stock's 19% tumble earlier this week, seemingly driven by news the Namibian government is hoping to take stakes in miners operating in the nation.

The company told the market it was not aware of any such changes yesterday.
