The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) tumbled on Thursday, falling 1.05% to close at 7,138.2 points.
The market's suffering came amid continued concerns of the United States' rapidly approaching debt ceiling, as my Fool colleague Bernd reported this morning.
Such concerns also appeared to have a negative impact on Wall Street indices overnight. Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJX: .DJI) dumped 0.8% in Wednesday's session, while the S&P 500 Index (SP: .INX) dropped 0.7%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index (NASDAQ: .IXIC) fell 0.6%.
Back home, there was one bright spot on the bourse. The S&P/ASX 200 Information Technology Index (ASX: XIJ) surged 2.4%.
It followed ripper earnings from Nvidia Corporation (NASDAQ: NVDA) overnight. The stock is leaping 25% in after-hours trade.
Meanwhile, the ASX 200's two largest sectors, the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) and the S&P/ASX 200 Financials Index (ASX: XFJ), plunged 1.8% and 1.9% respectively today.
So, with all that covered, let's take a look at the ASX 200 shares posting the biggest gains on Thursday.
