Here are the top 10 ASX 200 shares today

These stocks defied the market's downturn on Wednesday to post notable gains.

The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) struggled in Wednesday's session, falling 0.63% to close at 7,213.8 points.

That was despite a strong performance from the S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ), which lifted 0.7% on the back of rising oil prices.

Brent crude oil improved 1.1% overnight to US$76.84 a barrel while US Nymex crude oil gained 1.2% to US$72.91 a barrel.

Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Discretionary Index (ASX: XJO) fell 1% despite a ripper performance from the Webjet Limited (ASX: WEB) share price.

The stock rose 3.8% after the travel favourite dropped its full-year earnings, detailing a $70 million profit and $365 million of revenue.

ASX 200 mining stocks also had a rough session, with the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XMJ) coming in as the worst-performing sector, falling 1.7%.

So, with all that in mind, let's dive into ten ASX 200 shares that managed to defy today's downturn to post the index's biggest gains.
