The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) traded in the red on Tuesday, falling 0.29% to close at 7,360.2 points.
Weighing it down was the S&P/ASX 200 Energy Index (ASX: XEJ). The energy sector fell 1.9% on the back of a rough night for oil prices.
Brent crude oil and US Nymex oil each dropped 2% overnight to trade at US$84.76 a barrel and US$80.83 a barrel respectively amid a stronger US Dollar.
The S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Staples Index (ASX: XSJ) also suffered today, falling 1.2%, while the S&P/ASX 200 Real Estate Index (ASX: XRE) dropped 0.7%.
But not all was dire on the Aussie bourse today. The S&P/ASX 200 Utilities Index (ASX: XUJ) outperformed, rising 0.7%.
