The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) recovered some of its Monday losses today, closing Tuesday's session 0.82% higher at 6,955.4 points.

The Aussie bourse's day in the green followed a strong night's trade over on Wall Street. The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index (DJX: .DJI) led the way, lifting 1.2% overnight, while the S&P 500 Index (SP: .INX) jumped 0.9%, and the Nasdaq Composite Index (NASDAQ: .IXIC) gained 0.4%.

Back home, today's best-performing sector was the S&P/ASX 200 Consumer Discretionary Index (ASX: XDJ). It rose 1.5% led by the Domino's Pizza Enterprises Ltd (ASX: DMP) share price. The stock gained 5.6% amid news of a broker upgrade.

On the other hand, the S&P/ASX 200 Utilities Index (ASX: XUJ) underperformed all others, falling 1.6%.

But which ASX 200 share posted the biggest gain among its peers today? Let's take a look.

Today's top-performing ASX 200 stock was none other than coal favourite New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX: NHC).

Its share price gained 8.6% to close at $5.32 after the company revealed its profits doubled last half, coming in at around $669 million.
