The S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) bounced back from yesterday's chaos today. The index closed 1.3% higher at 7,115.1 points.
Leading today's gains on the Aussie bourse was the S&P/ASX 200 Utilities Index (ASX: XUJ). It rose 3.8%, driven by the Origin Energy Ltd (ASX: ORG) share price's 6.6% gain.
It was also a good day for the S&P/ASX 200 Real Estate Index (ASX: XRE). The sector lifted 2.8% as many of its constituents posted gains of around 5%.
However, most of today's top performers came from the S&P/ASX 200 Materials Index (ASX: XJO). The mining sector gained 2.3% on the back of a good night's trade for metal prices.
Gold futures rose 1.5% overnight to US$1,825.40 an ounce while iron ore futures increased 0.3% to US$109.86 a tonne. Meanwhile, copper and aluminium futures lifted 0.6% and 0.5% respectively.
