Australia's S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO)(ASX: XJO) and ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) indices finished higher on Friday.

Here's a short recap of the Australian market:

  • S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) higher 0.18% to 6,554.00
  • ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) higher 0.22% to 6,633.60
  • AUD/USD at US 69 cents
  • Gold at US$1,353.45 an ounce
  • Brent Oil at US$61.57 a barrel

The best-performing ASX 200 share today was the Nanosonics Ltd. (ASX: NAN) share price which went up 6.7%.

The share price of gold miners went up today as the gold price increased. The Northern Star Resources Ltd (ASX: NST) share price went up 5.6%. The Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited (ASX: SAR) share price increased by 5.5% due to both the gold price increase and news of an acquisition.

The AMP Limited (ASX: AMP) share price dropped 5.8% as APRA announced various directions and initiatives it wants the business to undertake.

The share price of Afterpay Touch Group Ltd (ASX: APT) dropped another 4.3% today, marking the end of another volatile week.

The Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX: FMG) share price is up 5.4% after announcing a joint venture to look for copper and gold in SA.

The share price of Volpara Health Technologies Ltd (ASX: VHT) rose 2.8% after completing its acquisition.

Finally, the share price of Ardent Leisure Group Limited (ASX: ALG) fell by 5.8% today, making it one of the biggest falls in the ASX 200.
