Cimic Group Ltd (ASX: CIM) is a mining and mineral processing, construction and energy services group.
Today, Cimic Group announced that its mining and mineral processing subsidiary, Thiess, has secured a $185 million coal operation contract from BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) at Mount Arthur in the Hunter Valley, Australia.
Thiess has been providing Mt Arthur Coal with load and haul services since December 2016. This new 15-month contract expands Thiess' existing services to include mining overburden and coal at the southern end of the Mt Arthur Coal operation.
Thiess Managing Director Douglas Thompson said "We look forward to continuing to support BHP, while creating opportunities for local jobs and local suppliers."
The company has had a long relationship with the Hunter Valley dating back to the 1940s. Thiess currently provides mining services at three mines and operates two maintenance workshops.
The Cimic Group share price is down 1.1% to $44.77 as of close today.
