The iron ore price soared 3% overnight and is now pushing on US$69 a tonne, according to The Metal Bulletin. That could help boost the BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) share price and Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX: FMG).
Oil prices were up around 1% as well, while gold jumped 0.7% to US$1,242 an ounce. That could also support the Newcrest Mining Limited (ASX: NCM) share price.
Th Spotless Group Holdings Ltd (ASX: SPO) share price is likely to remain at around $1.15 today after the company's board of directors 'reluctantly' recommended shareholders accept a takeover offer from Downer EDI Limited (ASX: DOW) yesterday, for $1.15 per share. Downer EDI held an interest of 67.3% at the time of the announcement, so those who did not accept would be minority shareholders.
The Village Roadshow Ltd (ASX: VRL) share price could receive some attention today as well. The shares fell as much as 8% yesterday, before ending the session 1.8% higher, after the group provided a trading update. That included a statement about the group's theme parks division which has been significantly impacted by the tragedy that occurred at Dreamworld – owned by Ardent Leisure Group (ASX: AAD) – in October 2016.
