In the last 12 months the Medibank Private Ltd (ASX: MPL) share price has fallen around 5%, compared to a 9% gain by the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO).
Due to this underperformance, the health insurer's shares will provide a fully franked 4% dividend over the next 12 months if it maintains its current pay out.
When do you need to invest to receive it?
Unfortunately for income investors, Medibank Private's interim dividend has been and gone.
Traditionally the company pays that at the end of March of each year, with its shares going ex-dividend at the start of that month.
But there's not long to wait for its final dividend. Whilst the amount and date has not been fixed yet, its shares tend to go ex-dividend during the first week of September.
Its final dividend is then paid to shareholders at the end of that month. Should it maintain its previous final dividend, income investors can look forward to a fully franked 6 cents per share.
