The Vocus Group Ltd (ASX: VOC) share price rocketed higher today off the back of a conditional and non-binding takeover offer from a private equity firm.

The VOC share price soared 21.7% after it received a takeover offer from Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. L.P. (KKR) which valued the company at $3.50 per share. Vocus' rivals TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX: TPM) and Telstra Corporation Ltd (ASX: TLS) also rose 0.9% and 0.2% for the session.
A number of other businesses also produced strong share price rises today. Gold miners Resolute Mining Limited (ASX: RSG) and Regis Resources Limited (ASX: RRL) both rose 7.9% and 3.8% after another rise in the gold price, while coal miner Whitehaven Coal Ltd (ASX: WHC) jumped 4.7%.
Sky Network Television Ltd (ASX: SKT) didn't fare so well. The SKT share price declined 3.9% for the day, making it one of the worst performing shares from within the ASX 200 cohort.
The Virtus Health Ltd (ASX: VRT) share price also declined 3%, while Blackmores Limited (ASX: BKL) slipped 3.6% to $89.
