The S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has risen for a third consecutive day today with a number of businesses delivering solid earnings performances.

- ALL ORDINARIES (Index: ^AXAO) (ASX: XAO) up 0.3% to 5717 points
- AUD/USD at US 76.22 cents
- Iron Ore at US$83.53 a tonne, according to the Metal Bulletin
- Gold at US$1,241.33 an ounce
- Brent oil at US$55.39 a barrel
BWX Ltd (ASX: BWX) and Class Ltd (ASX: CL1) were two companies that surprised to the upside with their earnings updates. The pair soared 16% and 16.7%, respectively.
Shares of AMP Limited (ASX: AMP) also rose an impressive 4% following their earnings results, as did SKYCITY Entertainment Group Limited-Ord (ASX: SKC) which jumped 4.2%.
Other shares that enjoyed strong gains today included Aconex Ltd (ASX: ACX), up 6.1%, and iSentia Group Ltd (ASX: ISD) up 7.1%.
Telecommunications pair Vocus Group Ltd (ASX: VOC) and TPG Telecom Ltd (ASX: TPM) soared 6.7% and 4.1% respectively, as well.
Unfortunately, there were a number of businesses that didn't track so well today.
Rio Tinto Limited (ASX: RIO) slipped 0.7% following its earnings update. Its rivals BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) and Fortescue Metals Group Limited (ASX: FMG) fell 1.2% and 3.6%, as well.
And Paragon Care Ltd. (ASX: PGC) fell 11.7% after it reported a significant lift in earnings, but a fall in earnings per share.
