The S&P/ASX 200 (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is expected to open flat this morning although it could come under pressure ahead of key central bank meetings around the world this week.

Here's a quick recap:

  • FTSE 100 (UK): down 0.3%
  • DAX (Germany): down 1.49%
  • CAC 40 (France): down 0.93%
  • Dow Jones (USA): down 0.49%
  • NASDAQ (USA): down 0.1%

Commodity prices have been on the agenda again recently, and that's unlikely to change today.

Gold prices slipped a further 0.3% during the latest session, with gold now fetching US$1,310 an ounce. This could weigh on shares like Silver Lake Resources Limited. (ASX: SLR), EVOLUTION FPO (ASX: EVN) and Beadell Resources Ltd (ASX: BDR) today.

Brent oil slipped another 1.8% as well, and is fetching less than US$46 a barrel. BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) could come under pressure, as could Woodside Petroleum Limited (ASX: WPL).

Retail giant JB Hi-Fi Limited (ASX: JBH) will be an attention seeker again today after its shares reopened for trade on Friday. The shares rallied higher following the announcement the group would acquire The Good Guys, despite some concerns being voiced by analysts.

Hills Ltd (ASX: HIL) could also attract some attention today following a volatile week last week. The shares ended the week considerably higher at 45.5 cents (compared to 36.5 cents the week before), although they did trade as high as 55 cents on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Santos Ltd (ASX: STO), Estia Health Ltd (ASX: EHE) and Fantastic Holdings Limited (ASX: FAN) have all endured heavy losses so far in September, with investors hopeful they can turn their misfortunes around in the final two weeks of the month.
