Gold bulls could receive a shock today after the spot gold price slipped 0.7% overnight. The gold price is now sitting at just US$1,314 an ounce. That could weigh on shares such as Silver Lake Resources Limited. (ASX: SLR) and Beadell Resources Ltd (ASX: BDR).
Oil, on the other hand, rebounded 1.4% which could help BHP Billiton Limited (ASX: BHP) and Santos Ltd (ASX: STO).
JB Hi-Fi Limited (ASX: JBH) is due to resume trading today following its acquisition of The Good Guys. The deal has received mixed reviews thus far, with some analysts expressing their disappointment at the potential synergies announced.
Investors will likely take another look at fellow retailer Myer Holdings Ltd (ASX: MYR) as well after its shares fell on Thursday after it released its full-year results.
Other companies that experienced sharp moves on Thursday, that could be in focus again today, include Automotive Holdings Group Ltd (ASX: AHG) and Flight Centre Trave Group Ltd (ASX: FLT). The pair fell 5.1% and 4.1%, respectively.
Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited (ASX: SAR), on the other hand, soared 5.7%, while Cover-More Group Ltd (ASX: CVO) was up 5.2%.
One other company whose shares have experienced considerable volatility this week is Hills Ltd (ASX: HIL). The shares raced almost 16% higher on Thursday, but remain 25% below Wednesday's high price of 55 cents.
