The All Ordinaries (Index: ^AORD) (ASX: XJO) closed 0.7% higher today, following the lead from US markets overnight.
Here are 10 of the top movers and shakers on the ASX today starting with 5 gainers…
PAS Group Ltd (ASX: PGR) saw its share price soar 22% to 63.5 cents, after receiving a takeover offer from US hedge fund Coliseum Capital Management worth 63 cents a share.
Gold explorer Gold Road Resources Ltd (ASX: GOR) jumped 10% to 44 cents and is now up 76% since the start of 2015. Much of that might be attributed to its 5.5 million ounce Gruyere deposit, extensive mining tenements in Western Australia and the potential as a takeover target.
AWE Limited's (ASX: AWE) share price gained 6.6% to 73 cents, as benchmark oil prices rose overnight.
Gold miner Regis Resources Ltd's (ASX: RRL) share price rose 5.7% to $1.665, but has gone virtually nowhere in the past 12 months – and mostly fluctuates with the gold price – on which it is obviously heavily dependent.
New Hope Corporation Limited (ASX: NHC) saw its share price gain 5.6% to close at $1.70 as investors applauded the company's 3.5 cents a share special dividend on top of the second-half dividend of 2.5 cents, fully franked.
And here are 5 companies that were heavily sold off…
OceanaGold Corporation (ASX: OGC) share price sunk 7.5% to $2.34, despite no news from the company.
Unilife Corporation (ASX: UNS) saw its share price fall 7.3% to 25.5 cents.
TPG Telecom Ltd's (ASX: TPM) share price dropped 4.6% despite reporting a record earnings result. The telecom group said contributions from the acquisition of AAPT last year were the largest contributor, but TPG says it also managed to generate organic growth.
Law firm Slater & Gordon Limited (ASX: SGH) saw its share price sink 4.2% to $2.71. We've written extensively about S&G in the past few months including here, here and here.
AP Eagers Ltd (ASX: APE) share price slumped 3.5% to $10.11, despite no news from the company. The automotive retail group is one of the largest in Australia and recently revealed a record profit for the 2015 financial year.
