The S&P/ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) is up 0.4% at midday today after receiving a lack of direction from Wall Street overnight where the major indices lacked conviction but did manage to finish the session with small gains.
Closer to home there has been mixed responses from investors to companies reporting results and providing updates. The market reacted poorly to an update from Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX: MQG), while Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ASX: ANZ) reported a strong lift in its first quarter cash profit which has sent the bank's share price higher.
