The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has risen 0.7% to 5,355.4, reversing some of yesterday's big loss, after US Federal Reserve vice chairman Janet Yellen said the US central bank had more work to do to help an underperforming economy and unemployment that was still too high. That likely means no early tapering to quantitative easing.
Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.
- James Hardie (ASX: JHX) soared 14.9% to $12.00

- Linc Energy (ASX: LNC) added 7.6% to $1.13
