The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has continued on its merry way, hitting its highest level since June 2008. The index rose 0.6% to 5,351.8, while on a sector basis, Metals & Mining, Materials and Consumer Staples all posted 1% plus gains.
Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.
- Sundance Resources (ASX: SDL) soared 31.3% to 13 cents
- Linc Energy (ASX: LNC) climbed 12.3% to $1.74
- Cudeco (ASX: CDU) rose 8.3% to $2.34
- Arrium (ASX: ARI) ex-OneSteel added 6.6% to $1.455
- Aquila Resources (ASX: AQA) gained 4.4% to $2.35
These stocks were the losers on the day.
- Qantas Airways (ASX: QAN) fell 5.6% to $1.35
- Energy World Corporation (ASX: EWC) dropped 4.2% to 45.5 cents
- Ten Network Holdings (ASX: TEN) slipped 3.6% to 27 cents
- Silver Lake Resources (ASX: SLR) lost 2.9% to 68 cents
- PanAust (ASX :PNA) closed down 2.7% at $1.975
