The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has soared 0.7% to close at 5,321.5, after earlier hitting a new five-year high. All sectors finished in the green, with gold leading the charge, up 5%.

- Paladin Energy (ASX: PDN) climbed 10% to 44 cents
- Medusa Mining (ASX: MML) added 8.8% to $2.10
- Linc Energy (ASX: LNC) rose 8.4% to $1.55
- Sundance Resources (ASX: SDL) gained 7.6% to 9.9 cents
These stocks were the losers on the day.
- Atlas Iron (ASX: AGO) dropped 4.4% to 99 cents
- Qantas Airways (ASX: QAN) fell 3.4% to $1.43
- Ansell (ASX: ANN) slumped 3% to $19.13
- SMS Management (ASX: SMX) lost 2.2% to $4.36
- Challenger (ASX: CGF) slipped 2.2% to $5.73
