The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has closed up 0.4%, at 5,283.1, after US markets soared overnight. News that the political impasse had been resolved – at least until February next year – and the debt ceiling deadline had been avoided, saw both the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 rise 1.4%.

- Boral (ASX: BLD) soared 5.9% to $5.03
- Perseus Mining (ASX: PRU) climbs 5.4% to 48.5 cents
- Linc Energy (ASX: LNC) added 5.2% to $1.43
- Pacific Brands (ASX: PBG) rose 4.1% to 75.5 cents
- Resolute Mining (ASX: RSG) ended up 3.9% to 54 cents
These stocks were the losers on the day.
- Regis Resources (ASX: RRL) dropped 4.4% to $3.44
- Ansell (ASX: ANN) lost 3% to $19.72
- Fortescue Metals Group (ASX: FMG) fell 3% to $5.24
- Oz Minerals (ASX: OZL) slipped 2.8% to $3.76
- Navitas (ASX: NVT) closed down 2.8% to $5.98
