The S&P / ASX 200 Index (Index: ^AXJO) (ASX: XJO) has added 0.4% to close at 5,100, with gold miners and the banks driving gains. The gold sector was up 2.6%, while information technology rose 1.8% and utilities added 1.2%.
Here are the top five best performing stocks in the index today.
- Medusa Mining (ASX:MML) rocketed 17.2% to $2.72
- Discovery Metals (ASX:DML) climbed 10.4% to 16 cents
- Silver Lake Resources (ASX:SLR) rose 8.7% to 99.5 cents
- St Barbara Limited (ASX:SBM) ended up 7% to 76 cents
- Kingsgate Consolidated (ASX:KCN) added 6.9% to $2.47
These stocks were the losers on the day.
- Trade Me Group (ASX:TME) slumped 6.9% to $3.89
- Buru Energy (ASX:BRU) lost 5.9% to $1.825
- Super Retail Group (ASX:SUL) fell 5% to $12.30
- Cudeco (ASX:CDU) dropped 4% to $1.56
- G8 Education (ASX:GEM) closed down 3.1% to $2.78
