Brambles (ASX: BXB) announced today that it has added its name to the list of corporate signatures on the United Nations Global Compact. The Compact exists as a policy initiative designed to help corporations align their operations and strategies with 10 human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption principles.
As a member, Brambles will be responsible for publishing an annual report that assesses its advancements in areas such as workplace discrimination, complicity in human rights abuses, environmentally damaging technologies, and business corruption. Currently, over 10,000 corporations and stakeholders across 130 countries have added their own names to the UN's growing list.
"At Brambles, we take the responsibility of being a sustainable company seriously," said CEO Tom Gorman in a statement. "This is reflected both in our approach to governance and in the daily activities of our 17,000 employees worldwide. Supporting the UN Global Compact is a natural step for us and aligns closely with the principles and commitments of Brambles' internal and corporate social responsibility programs."
Gorman noted that a key aspect of Brambles' business model is sustainability. The pooling solutions company assists clients in improving efficiencies and reducing environmental impacts, putting the UN Compact squarely in line with the company's strategy.
